POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Plan, implement and coordinate campus life programs which reflect the needs of a diverse student population, including a strong student leadership program and a comprehensive service learning program
  • Develop a student-friendly climate
  • Provide leadership and advisement to students and student organizations
  • Advertise and promote campus events
  • Participate in district-wide student life events and activities to ensure coordination of events for assigned campus
  • Coordinate the use of facilities by vendors, campus organizations and community groups
  • Work with faculty and staff to develop programs that capitalize on the interrelationships among student development, instruction and student success
  • Participate in the development, implementation, coordination and supervision of overall program goals, objectives, activities and budgets
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to develop and provide diverse programming on campus
  • Provide direction and support to students and student organizations including student government by facilitating opportunities for leadership development through campus activities, events, and advocacy

Knowledge of: Characteristics and needs of a diverse student population at a community college; program coordination principles; event planning and coordination principles; principles of student development, engagement, leadership, and advising; supervisory principles; instructional principles and techniques; customer service and public relations principles; scheduling principles; modern office procedures and methods and applicable computer applications; budgeting methods and techniques; applicable local, state, and federal laws or regulations; English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; report preparation techniques; and student activities functions, roles and impact in a post-secondary institution.

Ability to:  Coordinate and manage diverse student and cultural activities; promote events and activities; provide leadership to students and student organizations; communicate effectively with faculty, engaging their support in the identification of potential student leaders; coordinate programs, events and activities of academic and extracurricular interest with campus and community organizations; prepare clear and concise reports; supervise and train assigned staff; monitor a budget; prepare or oversee the development of effective promotional materials for events and student organizations; use applicable computer software application programs; multi-task and prioritize work; provide quality customer service; effectively communicate and/or interact with students, faculty, coworkers, supervisors, and the general public.

Training and Experience Bachelor's Degree in a related field and one year of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
