POSITION SUMMARY: This position will be responsible for student services work of an advanced level to include intensive student services support and case management for students who are traditionally hard to serve and who have multiple barriers to educational success.  The position also requires an advanced level of knowledge of all aspects of financial aid for targeted occupational certificate and clock hour programs. This position will have lead responsibilities and approval authority and serve as the technical specialist in multiple areas of student services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advise students on policies, procedures, and processes pertaining to multiple functional areas, including but not limited to:

  • Assisting students in the processes of enrollment and admissions; assessment, testing, career services and financial aid.
  • Referring students to support services including tutoring, community resources and other appropriate services to support the  retention of community college students.
  • Assisting students with financial aid processes, including but not limited to completing the FAFSA application over multiple year terms, completing required verification documents, completing loan applications and online loan counseling, and performing complex analytical calculations to determine Pell grant and student loan eligibility.
  • Making independent determinations, decisions, and recommendations according to complex guidelines for multiple areas of student services.
  • Resolving complex student services complaints and issues;
  • Assisting students in navigating MyPima.
  • Providing services to students and the general public by responding to a variety of inquiries and general requests.
  • Establishing guidelines and processes for placement testing and  providing customer service to students and staff.
  • Serve as a lead to staff to include assigning and monitoring work and providing guidance to student services specialist(s).

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of: Supervisory principles; principles and practices of student services programs, including retention theory, goal clarification, financial aid, admissions, assessment, advising, degree program planning, and/or student orientation;  Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, rules and regulations; placement tools including electronic testing.  Principles and practices in office support services, including maintaining confidentiality; Principles of record keeping, and basic report preparation; Desktop computer operations and software including spreadsheets, database, word processing, report writing, and student information systems; Customer service principles. 

Ability to:  Serve as technical lead to others; assist students in educational planning; respond to questions relating to program requirements, financial aid eligibility, admissions, disabled student resources, assessment testing and other program requirements. Interpret and apply federal, state, and local laws, as well as college rules and regulations pertaining to student service areas.  Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing in English.  Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including all groups within a diverse, multicultural community.  Provide effective customer service. 

Experience, Education and Licensing: Associate’s degree and three years of experience in various areas within student services with a primary focus on advising, other areas include admissions; registration; new student orientation; financial aid, assessment testing, academic advising, job placement; career services; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
