DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and performing preventative maintenance on a variety of computer hardware;
  • Installing, application software and operating systems;
  • Installing, new versions and/or installing updates to application software and supporting application software;
  • Installing, configuring, customizing, and troubleshooting operating software;
  • Installing, configuring, customizing, troubleshooting, and managing server operating systems and networking protocols;
  • Installing, troubleshooting, and supporting hardware and related peripherals; 
  • Providing assistance to faculty, staff, and students covering a variety of computer-related questions and/or problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will have experience working with:

  • Applicable hardware, software, and peripheral equipment;
  • Basic computer system or data network administration principles;
  • Quality customer service principles;
  • Operational documentation techniques;
  • Basic programming;
  • Basic client/server environment principles;
  • Computer or network back-up and restoration principles.

The successful candidate will have the ability to:

  • Run, monitor, and resolve problems with production and test jobs on computer platforms;
  • Install, test, document, operate, maintain, and integrate client computers in a networked environment;
  • Participate in the design and development of client computer software specifications and standards; maintain, distribute, and document software licensing and vendor maintenance agreements;
  • Provide technical assistance to, and train end-users on the use of hardware and software;
  • Provide customer service;
  • Promote a customer-oriented service philosophy;
  • Use communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with students, faculty, staff, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction;
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including all groups within a diverse, multicultural community.

Required Education and Licensing: High School Diploma, or General Equivalency Degree, and two years computer technical experience; or, an equivalent combination of
education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. 

Physical Requirements:  Positions in this class typically require: stooping, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.  Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts and electrical currents.
