POSITION SUMMARY:  Perform police officer duties in controlling and analyzing crime scenes, establishing and maintaining order, identifying and enforcing campus violations, and conducting proactive public relations with students, the public, and employees.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform law enforcement and crime prevention work, to include patrolling college properties in an effort to proactively preserve law and order and achieve positive public relations; respond to public safety emergencies, complaints, concerns or questions and administer proper procedures to ensure public safety; conduct criminal investigations; enforce parking regulations, control and direct traffic, to include respond to and conduct traffic accident investigations; inspect and maintain the security of college buildings and facilities.  Provide public assistance; participate in community service activities; use safe work practices and procedures, and provide customer service. Prepare applicable crime and incident reports.  Perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the Department of Public Safety.  Maintain and clean equipment. 

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:  All applicants must meet the minimum requirements as prescribed by Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZ POST).  Preference may be given applicants currently certified by AZ POST.  See the attached memo or www.azpost.state.az.us/ for additional information.

Knowledge of
: Law enforcement principles and procedures; applicable laws, rules and regulations; defensive tactics; firearm usage and justification; first aid principles;  safe work practices, to include safe lifting and carrying methods, and the proper use of weapons;  principles of effective customer service and written and verbal communications.

Ability to: Interpret and apply laws, rules and regulations; analyze complex and stressful situations; use firearms; use defensive tactics; conduct interviews and interrogations; maintain personal control; drive and/or operate applicable vehicles; communicate orally and in writing in English; use interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction; work in a seven-day a week operation and provide effective customer service.

Experience, Education and Licensing: High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as shown here. This position requires possession of a valid Arizona Driver's License and demonstration of an acceptable driving record.  Attendance at an Arizona Police Academy will be scheduled for successful non-certified candidates.  The academy is physically and mentally challenging.  AZ POST certification and passing the department’s field training officer program are required in order to successfully complete the College’s probationary requirements.

Physical Requirements: This position requires: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.  Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  Incumbents may be subjected to chemicals, vibrations, fumes, odors, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises and travel.

OTHER INFORMATION: These are 40-hours/week positions that are part of a seven- day a week operation, including weekends and holidays.  A post offer-of-employment medical exam and psychological evaluation (College-provided) will be required.
