DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary duties are to teach courses in Nursing to a diverse student population with an emphasis in one or more of the following areas: Medical/Surgical or Maternal-Child/Pediatric or Mental Health nursing. Faculty will be required to provide instruction in community clinical environments. Additional duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: conferencing with students regarding academic success; evaluating student performance; providing academic advising; evaluating and revising course outlines, course materials, and instructional methods; participating in curriculum design; building community relations; developing the nursing program, maintaining competency and currency in the discipline taught as well as in teaching strategies and assessment methods; mentoring adjunct faculty; serving as a department member on College committees; and performing other professional duties.
Faculty members will possess knowledge of student learning styles; assessment instruments and the interpretation of results; evaluation of a student’s educational progress; and techniques of academic advising. Faculty members must also know the current issues, trends, advances, research and practices impacting the field of Nursing.
Faculty will teach a broad range of courses in the discipline or subject area and will be expected to use a wide range of delivery systems, such as lecture, college lab, and clinical lab, internet and other alternatives. OTHER INFORMATION: Faculty will teach a flexible schedule that may include day, evening and weekend classes. Continued employment in this position is contingent on continued funding from designated sources.
Minimum Qualifications: (1) Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Nursing; (2) Current R.N. license in good standing from either Arizona or a license with multi-state privilege to practice in Arizona; and, (3) Two years recent (within the last five years) experience as a professional nurse providing direct patient care or current nursing teaching experience that includes clinical instruction. Applicants currently in progress for a master’s degree must have the degree conferred at time of application submission.
SALARY and BENEFITS: Initial annual salary, based on education and experience (effective July 1, 2008) is from $53,589 for Masters and two years experience to $75,017 for Doctorate and more than twelve years experience (based on the nursing faculty salary schedule for fiscal year 2008/2009) for a nine-month academic year contract. Relocation benefits available for out of county candidates which includes three months of rental assistance up to $1,000 per month and moving expenses. Fringe benefits include medical, dental, life and income protection insurance, sick leave, state or optional retirement plan, professional enrichment monies, and flexible medical and dependent care spending accounts. As a condition of employment, new faculty members are required to attend an institute on teaching and learning sponsored by the College (anticipated to be held in late July 2008).
SELECTION PROCESS: Candidates invited to move forward to the next stage of the selection process will be chosen from among those who most closely meet the stated characteristics (Meeting these qualifications and criteria does not guarantee an interview.). Candidates invited to move forward to the next stage of the selection process will participate in a committee interview, a teaching demonstration, and an administrative interview (a one day process whenever possible). Those candidates selected for this process will be asked to provide official transcripts of academic work, and may be asked to provide verification of previous training or experience, and other related appropriate professional papers. Candidate is responsible for all travel arrangements and expenses. To help offset travel expenses, out-of-town and out-of-state candidates who are invited to participate in the on-site interview process will be reimbursed up to $1,175 using the College’s travel policy.
