Motorcycle Rider Courses - Frequently Asked Questions
How much is the course? The Basic RiderCourse (BRC) is $198, which includes motorcycle license testing. The Motorcycle ABC: Absolute Beginner Course (ABC) is $249, which includes motorcycle license testing. The Experienced RiderCourse (ERC) is $55, with an additional $15 for optional motorcycle license testing. What is provided in the course? For the BRC and ABC, we provide the motorcycle, helmet and gloves. For the ERC, you ride your own motorcycle and use your own protective gear. What should I bring to class? For the BRC and ABC, you must wear long pants (preferably denim), a long sleeve shirt or jacket, sturdy over-the-ankle shoes or boots (no tennis shoes) and eye protection (sun glasses or eye glasses are acceptable). For the ERC, you must wear everything listed above, plus a DOT-approved helmet and full-fingered gloves. Do I need a motorcycle permit to take these classes? You do not need a motorcycle permit or license to take the BRC or ABC, but you do need one to take the ERC. Where is the class taught? At Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. The instructors will meet the class in the Visitor Center parking lot and escort you onto the Base. Will I get my motorcycle license after taking the class? If you successfully complete both the written and riding skills tests, you will be issued an Arizona Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) Driver Education Program Certificate of Completion. No additional testing is required for the motorcycle endorsement. This form and a $7 fee, paid at the MVD, will allow the motorcycle endorsement to be added to your Arizona driver's license. If you are under 18, the MVD will not issue a motorcycle endorsement until you have had a motorcycle permit for five months. The Arizona MVD Driver Education Program Certificate of Completion is good for six months; if you do not have a motorcycle permit prior to taking the BRC or ABC, we recommend you obtain one immediately after completing the class.
