Theater Arts 2009-2010 Season

Ramona Quimby

September 23 - October 4, 2009

Proscenium Theatre

Adapted by Len Jenkins and based on the Newberry Award-winning books by Beverly Cleary. Directed by Betsy Kruse Craig. Set against a Paul Klee-inspired backdrop of shapes and colors, eight-year old Ramona’s messy life is revealed. Third grade is not fun, her older sister Beezus always gets her way, and her dad loses his job. But Ramona discovers her world is filled with people who care about her and together they face difficulties with spunk and humor. ASL interpreters available 10/2 at 7 p.m. Tickets: $6. School matinee performances 9/23, 9/24, 9/25, 9/30, 10/1, 10/2 at 10 a.m. Tickets $5.

Ramona's Play Date, a free event for families featuring kid-friendly activities and treats, is Saturday, September 12 at 9-11 a.m. in the Black Box Theatre.

Black Box Theatre

A classic English comedy by Philip King. Directed by Mickey Nugent. Set in a 1940s British village, a nosy spinster becomes convinced that her revered vicar's wife is having an affair and attempts to expose her. An escaped German prisoner of war, a handsome actor, a visiting bishop, a local priest and some meddling neighbors provide a reckless romp through one hilarious situation after another. ASL interpreters 11/12 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 with discounts available.


Cinderella

February 24 - March 7, 2010

A fairy tale musical by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. Directed by the creative team of Todd Poelstra, Mickey Nugent, David Waggoner and Dr. Mark Nelson. Captivating and enduring, the timeless rags-to-riches tale shimmers with romance, optimism and humor. Adapted from the Rogers and Hammerstein made-for-television musical that broadcast live in 1957 to 107 million people, Cinderella captures the world of "happily ever after" with its magical and sumptuous score. ASL interpreters 3/4 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 with discounts available. School matinee performance 3/5 at 10 a.m. Tickets $6.


A Midsummer Night's Dream

April 7-18, 2010

Black Box Theatre

A romantic comedy by William Shakespeare. Directed by Frank Pickard. Under the enchantment of a moonlit forest, mischievous fairies bend the fate of foolish mortals and mismatched lovers leaving them to wonder, upon waking, how much of the night was really a dream. A Midsummer Night's Dream, featuring three interlocking plots, is rich in fantasy, imagery and merriment. ASL interpreters 4/15 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 with discounts available.
