Taking the Test
Step One - Attend GED 101 and/or take the GED Official Practice Test (OPT)

- Call (520) 206-6500 for more information on the GED 101
- Official Practice Test (OPT)
- Call the GED Hotline at (520) 206-6GED (6433) for the nearest location to take the OPT
- The OPT Exam is given by all PCCAE locations free of charge and is used to determine readiness to take the official GED Exam
Step Two - Register to take the official GED Exam
Step Three - Make an appointment to take the official GED exam by calling the GED Hotline at (520) 206-6GED (6433)
Step Four - Arrive ON TIME for your scheduled exam appointment
Before the Test Starts - Be ready: use the restroom, eat and drink enough to sustain you, make all phone calls and arrangements before entering the testing room. You will be allowed to have a sealable/closable bottle of water (no cups) in the test room but no food, sodas, coffee, etc. will be allowed.
- Be sure you feel well enough to be in the testing room for the entire time allowed.
- Leave non-essential items at home. You will be provided everything you need to take the exam. If you bring a cell phone, or other electronic devices; you will be required to turn them off and secure them in a pouch provided by GED test center representative. Under no circumstances are cell phones or other electronic devices allowed to be on in the testing room. Violation of this policy will result in testing results being voided and all appointments being cancelled for the day.
- BE PROMPT. At the scheduled time, a test center representative will examine photo identifications, check for your name on the appointment list, and let you in the examination room. If you are late, you will miss the exam.
- You must present picture ID when you first arrive and then you will wear your picture ID around your neck while present for GED testing.
During the Test - The examiner(s) will give you testing materials.
- Listen carefully to directions.
- Work carefully and quietly.
- The GED is a timed test. Time limits will be posted.
- When you finish, raise your hand. The examiner will come to collect the materials.
- When the testing time ends, the examiner will tell you to stop and will come to pick up your materials.
- If you do not stop when time is called, the test will be invalidated and you must wait 30 days to retest on that subject.
- In the case of a safety emergency (for example: fire), leave all materials on the table and leave the room.
After the Test - As soon as your materials are checked in, you will be asked to leave the testing room quietly and be told when to return for the next session.
- Scores should be available online at the web address given during registration within seven (7) business days
