PCC, ASU to Announce New Degree Completion Program
August 31, 2009 Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College (PCC) and Arizona State University (ASU) are partnering in a new program to increase the number of PCC students who obtain baccalaureate degrees at ASU. Chancellor Roy Flores and President Michael Crow will participate in a signing ceremony establishing the Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program Friday, Sept. 4 at 12:15 p.m. in the Community Room at Pima Community College’s District Office, 4905 E. Broadway Blvd. TAG is a degree-to-degree transfer program that guarantees admission into an ASU undergraduate-degree program for PCC students who complete the requirements of the TAG. Each Transfer Admission Guarantee program includes an appropriate Arizona General Education Curriculum, major courses designated by the ASU degree program, and electives required to complete an associate’s degree. Under the program, students complete associate’s degrees at PCC and bachelor’s degrees at ASU. Students who successfully complete TAG requirements and transfer to ASU within three years of entering the program will receive tuition incentives, such as a cap on tuition increases during their matriculation at ASU. PCC and ASU have a strong history of developing collaborations and partnerships to support transfer student success. As the need for educated workers in the state increases, they are ramping up their efforts. Goals include encouraging Pima students to earn an associate’s degree before transferring, making students aware of financial aid opportunities and requirements, and increasing collection and sharing of data. “We are strengthening our relationship with Arizona State University to ensure that residents of Pima County have additional paths to baccalaureate degrees,” says Dr. Flores. “This agreement complements existing articulation initiatives and adds to our list of transfer opportunities.” “Linkages between the community college and the university are essential to the future of our educational enterprise in Arizona,” says Dr. Crow. “Pima Community College and ASU have enhanced our relationship through this new program and thus we are enhancing opportunities for student success.” The two institutions will work together during the fall and spring semesters to implement the TAG program.
