Student Wins Prestigious Scholarship
May 12, 2009
Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College student John Windham has been named a recipient of The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.
Windham will receive a $30,000 scholarship in each of the next two years.
He is one of only 30 community college students nationwide to receive the award in 2009, and is the first PCC student to win the award in its 10 years of existence.
The scholarship is designed to support outstanding community college students with financial need in transferring to four-year colleges and universities and completing their bachelor’s degrees. It is the largest private scholarship for two-year and community college transfer students in the U.S.
A national panel of university faculty and admissions administrators selected the winners from among 485 nominees. Students were judged on academic achievement, critical thinking ability, financial need, will to succeed, and breadth of interest and activities.
