GED Graduation, May 28

Tucson, AZ - Pima Community College Adult Education (PCCAE) will hold a Celebration of Achievement for students who have earned their Arizona High School Equivalency Diploma, on Thursday, May 28 at the Tucson Convention Center Music Hall, located at 260 S. Church Avenue beginning at 7 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public.

Approximately 300 GED recipients are expected to attend the celebration and more than 1,000 family and friends to support, congratulate and cheer them on.  GED Graduates will also be recognized for their academic accomplishments by members of the Pima Community College Board of Governors, the Arizona Department of Education, and local community leaders.

This year’s Celebration of Achievement also celebrates Pima Community College Adult Education’s 40th anniversary.  Over the past 40 years, tens of thousands of students have participated in free Literacy, Adult Basic Skills, GED Preparation, English as a Second Language (ESL), Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship, Workplace, and Family Literacy classes.  Thousands of adult education students have earned their Arizona High School Equivalency Diploma, gained employment in livable wage jobs, transitioned to college and earned degrees.  

Common amongst our GED students has been the courage to return to school, determination to achieve their goals and the drive to improve the quality of their lives, their families and our community.

Four students, each representing one of the four decades of Pima Community College Adult Education’s forty years of service to our community, will be speaking at this year’s graduation.

Close to 1,700 students received their GED this year through the PCCAE.  PCCAE provides GED preparation classes and adult basic education courses to approximately 8,000 students a year.
