PCC Wind Ensemble joint concert with Flowing Wells High School, April 30 at 7:30 p.m.
April 13, 2009 what: Pima Community College and Flowing Wells High School Wind Ensembles in concert where: PCC Center for the Arts Proscenium Theatre, West Campus, 2202 West Anklam Road, Tucson, AZ 85709-0225 when: Thursday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. tickets: $6 with discounts available Tucson, AZ - Pima Community College Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Mark Nelson, hosts a concert with the Flowing Wells High School Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Bob Gaston and Bill Janton. Each ensemble will play separately then combine for two selections. Flowing Wells Wind Ensemble’s inspiring and eclectic program features several 20th century band works. Their program includes “Army of the Nile” by Kenneth Alford and “Rhosymedre” by Ralph Vaughan Williams paired with two American works, “Flight of the Piasa” by Robert Sheldon and “Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa which features a duo solo by Anna Roder, piccolo, and Jacob Conner, tuba. The PCC Wind Ensemble’s program includes “Mars” from the Planets by Gustav Holst, “Amazing Grace” by Frank Ticheli, “Folk Song Suite” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and “George Washington Bridge” by William Schuman. The bands will combine to perform “Of Sailors and Whales” by Francis McBeth conducted by Bob Gaston and “Esprit De Corps” by Robert Jaeger conducted by Mark Nelson. The PCC Wind Ensemble/Flowing Wells High School Wind Ensemble concert is open to the public. Tickets are available at the Center for the Arts box office, located on West Campus at 2202 West Anklam Road, Tucson, (just west of downtown on St. Mary’s Road).
