2009 Phi Theta Kappa Awards
April 16, 2009 2009 Phi Theta Kappa Awards Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College’s (PCC) Alpha Beta Chi Chapter was recently honored at the 2009 Phi Theta Kappa, Arizona Regional Convention, held at Arizona Western College in Yuma, Arizona from February 27 – 29, 2009. At the convention, PCC’s Alpha Beta Chi Chapter received recognition for the Scholarship Hallmark Award and Leadership Hallmark Award, in appreciation of superior achievements. Out of the 24 competing chapters in Arizona, Alpha Beta Chi was only one of two to receive these awards. The chapter was also recognized as a Five Star Chapter. Several PCC administrations and students were honored at the convention. PCC Chancellor, Dr. Roy Flores was selected as a recipient of Phi Theta Kappa’s prestigious Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction, based on his outstanding support of Phi Theta Kappa. PCC West Campus Vice President of Student Development, Nancy Sorenson, was selected as a recipient of the prestigious Administrator Award of Distinction. Dr. JodyLee Estrada Duek received the Distinguished Advisor Award, which recognizes distinguished service by advisors. Chapter member Lisa Ryan received recognition as a Distinguished Chapter Member. Phi Theta Kappa is the oldest, largest and most prestigious honor society recognizing the academic achievements of two-year college students in the world today.
