Pima Community College Board of Governors Meeting, April 2009

April 9, 2009

Pima Community College Board of Governors Meeting

Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College’s Board of Governors will meet Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 7:00 pm in the District Office Community Board Room (4905 E Broadway Blvd).

The meeting will include a special recognition of students, staff, faculty and community members by the Board of Governors for their awards and accomplishments. Included in the recognition will be the Women’s Basketball team, which recently placed third in the NJCAA National Tournament and achieved a season record of 28-6.

Additionally, the Superintendents of the Sunnyside and Marana school districts will present as part of the Chancellor’s Report to the Board.

As part of the consent agenda, the Board of Governors will vote on the purchase an emergency broadcasting loudspeaker system that will integrate with current College voice and data networks.  The purchase represents the initial phase of the College’s emergency alert plan, with installation initially at two of PCC’s six campuses.

Also as part of the agenda, the Board of Governors will decide this evening whether or not to increase tuition and, if so, by what amount.  Chancellor Roy Flores will recommend that the Board approve an increase to in-state tuition and that out-of-state tuition rates also be increased proportionate to the in-state tuition increase rate. “The students did not create the economic crisis and we will do our part to ensure that they are not unnecessarily burdened by economic decisions made by others.  We are not going to rely on tuition increases to make up a major portion of the shortfall in revenues. We are going to do everything possible to keep tuition increases within the historical range. We will do that as long as we can,” Flores explains.
