College Property Tax Information Released

June 2, 2008

Pima County Community College District has released its Truth in Taxation information for its 2008-09 budget, in compliance with Arizona Revised Statutes section 15-1461.01.

According to the Truth in Taxation documents, the College is proposing an increase in primary tax revenues of $1,582,292, an increase of 2.1% over 2007-08.  The Truth in Taxation formula, however, does not reflect increased property taxes revenues received from new construction.

Pima Community College will actually reduce its primary tax rate by 4.0%, when the total assessed valuation for all of Pima County is taken into account, including new construction.  This is the fifth consecutive year that the College has reduced its primary tax rate.  After accounting for new construction, the actual primary property taxes on a hypothetical $100,000 home would decrease $4.04 from $101.91 to $97.87.

The College’s secondary tax rate for 2008-09 has also been reduced by 1.09% from the prior year.  Overall, homeowners will see their 2008-09 combined property tax rates for the Pima County Community College District reduced by 3.6%.

The current 3.6% tax rate reduction follows last year’s 4.4% reduction in the combined tax rate by the College.

The College’s elected five-member Board of Governors will hold a public hearing on the 2008-09 budget on Wednesday, June 11, 2008.  The public hearing will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the College’s Community/Board Room at the District Offices, 4905 E. Broadway Boulevard.  The Board of Governors' regular monthly meeting will follow the public hearing on the budget.  The College’s Board of Governors meetings are open to the public.
