New Desert Vista Campus President
December 1, 2007The Pima Community College Board of Governors has appointed Dr. Christal M. Albrecht as president of the Desert Vista Campus. The Desert Vista Campus on Tucson’s southwest side serves approximately 6,500 students annually and offers programs in aviation, culinary arts and early childhood, in addition to general transfer classes. Dr. Albrecht has a doctorate in Education from the University of Houston. She has been the Vice President for Student Learning with Cy-Fair College in Cypress, Texas since 2001. She was a member of the founding team at Cy-Fair College in 2000 – 2001 as the Associate Dean for College Planning. Dr. Albrecht had previously been the Associate Dean for Program Development and Evaluation at North Harris College in Houston, Texas; between 1997 – 1998 she was the Director of Instructional Programs. She has also served as the Program Director for the Community and Technical Colleges Division of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Dr. Albrecht has taught at both the high school and college levels. Dr. Albrecht’s recent awards include the Bellwether Top Ten Finalist for Planning, Governance and Finance; and the Phi Theta Kappa Outstanding Faculty Award. Dr. Mary Vanis had been interim president of the Desert Vista Campus since February while on leave from the Maricopa Community College District. Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona serves approximately 75,000 students annually and is the seventh largest community college in the country.
