"What's The Story?" Writing Weekend Workshop

September 18, 2007

"What’s the Story?" is a fiction writing workshop focusing on practical ways to tell stories.  The class, which will meet over the weekend of Oct. 5 - 7, will focus on playing with words to create vivid stories, as well as learning ways to create a narrative and transform subjects through language and form.  By the end of the weekend, students will have written a rough draft for a story and have many ideas for new ones.

The workshop will be taught by Laurie Hendrie who works with writing students around the country.  Hendrie, a professional writer for 28 years, has won the American Academy of Arts and Letters Rosenthal Award for her collection of stories, Stygo.  She was one of three finalists for the 2000 PEN/Hemingway Award.

The workshop will meet Friday, Oct. 5 from 6 - 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6 - 7 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at PCC's West Campus, 2202 W. Anklam Road.

The class is appropriate for writers of all levels and participants can earn two college credits.  The fee for Arizona residents is $109.  Non-residents should call 206-4500 for information on costs.

Students can register in advance at any PCC campus or online through www.pima.edu.  Current and former PCC students can also register via phone at (520) 206-4880.
