PCC Offers Spanish for Health Care Workers
September 18, 2007Pima Community College’s Small Business Development Center will offer a series of workshops geared toward health care employers who want to train employees in workplace Spanish. Spanish@Work for Medical Employees will be offered in three segments, Introduction, Intermediate and Advanced, beginning September 25 and continuing through May 2008. Employers can attend the initial Sept. 25 session for free to sample the workshop, as long as they register first. Quick eight-week sessions covering all three courses are also available through the College. Introduction to Workplace Spanish, where students greet and interact with patients, learn about Hispanic culture issues and identify parts of the body. Introduction to Workplace Spanish will meet Tuesdays, from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Sept. 25 - Nov. 13. Students who take the Intermediate workshop will learn terms to conduct patient intake, collect medical history and ask and respond to health related questions. The intermediate course will meet Tuesday evenings starting January 15. In the Advanced workshop, which will begin on March 25, students will practice their medical terminology, give instructions to patients and process insurance forms. The cost for each workshop is $149. The workshops will be held at the College’s Community Campus, 401 N. Bonita Ave. Interested employers can register their employees by calling (520) 206-6569.
