Big Friendly Giant Opens Sept. 26

September 17. 2007

PCC Theatre Arts brings its third Roald Dahl children’s tale to the stage with the magical and heartwarming production of “The BFG (Big Friendly Giant).”  The show opens Wednesday, September 26 and continues through Sunday, October 7 at the Center for the Arts Proscenium Theatre.

The BFG is a story about courage and acceptance, facing fears, good dreams and bad dreams. In true fairy-tale style this spellbinding production features two dream sequences and is filled with enchanting illusions and captivating special effects.

The BFG is a dream-giving giant and the only friendly giant in Giant Country.  He collects dreams in jars and blows them into the bedrooms of sleeping children.

One night a young orphan girl, Sophie, wakes up and sees the giant.  He plucks her from the window and takes her to his cave.  Despite his zany, mixed-up language and enormous size, the two become friends.  Together they plot to save the children of England from the unfriendly giants.

The BFG (Big Friendly Giant),” directed by Mickey Nugent, features PCC performing arts students, and an imaginative array of papier-mâché, hand and shadow puppets ranging up to 16-feet tall.

The Center for the Arts is offering an expanded two-week production schedule for "The BFG (Big Friendly Giant)" with six school matinee performances for elementary and middle school students. School matinees start at 10 a.m. Wednesday through Friday, September 26-28 and October 3-5.

Tickets for "The BFG (Big Friendly Giant)" are $6.

The Pima Community College Center for the Arts is located on the College's West Campus, 2202 West Anklam Road.  The box office is open Monday through Friday 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and one hour prior to show times.  For ticket information and to purchase advance tickets, contact the box office at 206-6986 or email centerforthearts@pima.edu.
