Center for the Arts 2007-08 Season

Pima Community College Center for the Arts announces its 2007-2008 Season, showcasing the creative talents of the College’s theatre, music, dance, visual arts and digital arts students, faculty and guest artists.

PCC Theatre Arts presents:
• Roald Dahl’s “The BFG (Big Friendly Giant)” – directed by Mickey Nugent.  September 26 – October 7, 2007, in the Proscenium Theatre: Thursday 10/4 at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m., (elementary and middle school matinee performances on 9/26, 9/27, 9/28, 10/3, 10/4, 10/5 at 10 a.m.). Tickets are $6 (school matinee performances are $5). The BFG Playtime, a free event for kids with games, crafts and treats, will be held Saturday, September 8 at 9-11 a.m. in the Black Box Theatre.

• Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” – directed by Betsy Kruse Craig. Performed in the round November 7-18, 2007, in the Black Box Theatre: Wednesday preview and Thursday-Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Sun. at 2 p.m., Tickets are $8-12

• The musical “Wonderful Town” (music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Betty Comden and Adoph Green) - directed by the creative team of Todd Poelstra, David Waggoner and Mickey Nugent. February 20 – March 2, 2008, in the Proscenium Theatre: Wednesday-Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10-$15.

• Sam Shepard’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama “Buried Child” – directed by Betsy Kruse Craig. April 9-20, 2008, in the Black Box Theatre: Wednesday preview, Thursday-Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8-$12.

PCC Music presents:
• October 11, 2007, PCC Wind Ensemble at 7:30 p.m.
• October 25, 2007, PCC Chorale and College Singers at 7:30 p.m.
• November 19, 2007, PCC Jazz Improv Combos at 7:30 p.m.
• November 27, 2007, PCC Jazz Ensemble at 7:30 p.m.
• November 29, 2007, PCC Wind Ensemble 7:30 p.m.
• December 1, 2007, PCC Orchestra at 3 p.m.
• December 2, 2007, PCC Chorale and College Singers at 3 p.m.
• March 13, 2008, PCC Wind Ensemble at 7:30 p.m.
• March 27, 2008, PCC Chorale and College Singers at 7:30 p.m.
• April 17, 2008, PCC Faculty Mark Nelson Tuba Recital at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall
• April 21, 2008, PCC Jazz Improv Combos at 7:30 p.m.
• April 22, 2007, PCC Jazz Ensemble at 7:30 p.m.
• April 25-26, 2008, OperaPima Opera Scenes Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
• May 1, 2008, PCC Wind Ensemble at 7:30 p.m.
• May 3, 2008, PCC Orchestra at 3 p.m.
• May 11, 2008, PCC Chorale and College Singers at 3 p.m.

Music concert tickets are $5-6.   All performances are in the Proscenium Theatre, unless otherwise noted.

PCC Dance presents:
“December 5-7, 2007, “Dance Treasures” featuring the dance drama “Pirates” -, in the Black Box Theatre: Wednesday-Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

May 8-10, 2008, “Dance Tales” featuring the dance drama “Snow White and the Hip Hop Dwarfs” - in the Proscenium Theatre: Thursday-Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

All tickets to PCC Dance concerts are $5.

Louis Carlos Bernal Gallery Exhibitions:
• "New Works: New Visions," works by Hiro Tashima, Maria Lee, Jay Gogin, September 10 - October 19, 2007. Artist reception: September 12, 5-7 p.m. Gallery talk: September 13, 11:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.
• "New Abstractions," works by David Andres, Barbara Jo McLaughlin, Tim Mosman: November 5 – December 7, 2007. Artist reception: November 7, 5-7 p.m. Gallery talk: November 8, 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.
• "Land, Art and the Sacred: Three Perspectives," with artists D.Y. Begay, Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi, Claire Campbell Park: January 22-March 7, 2008. Artist reception: February 7, 4-6:30 p.m. Gallery talk: February 7, 11:30 a.m. –12:30 p.m.
• Annual Juried Student Exhibition, works by PCC students: April 7-May 2, 2008. Awards reception: April 9, noon-1 p.m.

Bernal Gallery exhibitions and programs are free.

PCC Digital Arts presents:
• Digital Video and Film Screening: December 17, 2007, at 7 p.m.
• Digital Video and Film Screening: May 16-17, 2008, at 7 p.m.

Digital Arts screenings are held in the Proscenium Theatre and are free.
