April 26, 2007

The Pima Community College Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Mark Nelson, finishes its season with a concert Thursday, May 3, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Proscenium Theatre.

Concert selections will include “A Festive Overture” by Alfred Reed, the 18th century “Symphonie for Band” by Louis Jardin and Harold Pottenger's multi-movement “Suite for Band.”

The concert will also feature Dr. John Snavely, PCC adjunct music faculty, as the clarinet soloist. He will play “Crossover Concerto” for solo clarinet and concert band written by local composer John Dennman and arranged from the original score for symphony orchestra. This work has elements of jazz interspersed with classical-style movements and forms. It was created as a tour-de-force clarinet solo.

Throughout the program, additional works for brass, woodwind, and percussion ensembles will also be featured.
