Student Art Exhibit Opens April 16

April 6, 2007

Pima Community College's Louis Carlos Bernal Gallery will present its annual juried art exhibition of Pima Community College student works April 16 through May 4.

An opening reception and awards ceremony will be held Wednesday, April 18, from Noon - 3 p.m. in the gallery.  The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

The Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition has been recognized as one of the most important events for emerging artists in southern Arizona.  Students from all six of the College's campuses have the opportunity to present their work in a professional venue to be viewed by the general public.

According to gallery director Albert Stewart, “All media and approaches to making art are represented in the exhibition, and reveal the highest level of production and quality stressed by the curriculum at Pima.  Students come from culturally and economically diverse backgrounds, and their art illustrates the complexities of their lifestyles, their intellectual contexts, and the many levels of their learning experiences.”

Distinguished jurors for this year’s exhibition are: Julie Sasse, chief curator for the Tucson Museum of Art; Lauren Rabb, director of The Gallery at Sixth & Sixth; and Barbara Brandel, Tucson mixed media artist.

Sponsors for the show include The Arizona Designer Craftsmen, Creative Plastics, the Congress Hotel, Marjon Ceramics, Posner’s, Sarnoff Artist’s Materials and the Tucson Museum of Art.

The PCC Center for the Arts, Louis Carlos Bernal Gallery is located on West Campus at 2202 West Anklam Road. The gallery is open Monday and Wednesday 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday and Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursday 3:30-5 p.m. or by appointment.
