Wind Ensemble celebrates band music from France

The Pima Community College Wind Ensemble begins the Spring concert season on Thursday, March 8, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Proscenium Theatre.  Under the direction of Dr. Mark Nelson, the Wind Ensemble will perform a tribute to band music from France. 

The program lineup includes “March Lorraine” by Louis Ganne, a French master of the regimental march of the early 20th century, and “Pastorale De Provence” by Franco Cesarini is composed in the framework of Baroque dances with French folk songs and melodies from 17th century French composers. 

The concert will also include performances by several smaller ensembles.  The woodwind ensemble will play an arrangement of “American in Paris” by George Gershwin. The percussion ensemble will perform “Mission Impossible Theme” by Lalo Schiferin and “Rhythm Net No. 1” for percussion quintet by Terry Gunderson. The brass ensemble will present “Battle Suite,” a Renaissance tour-de-force by Samuel Scheidt.
