Pima Community College Revises Registration Procedure
March 15, 2007Pima Community College has revised its registration procedure for credit classes to comply with requirements of Proposition 300. Approved by Arizona voters last November, Prop. 300 requires verification of eligibility to in-state tuition rates for U.S. citizens and qualifying legal immigrants. Under the new procedure, all students registering for credit classes at Pima Community College will be required to complete a one-time Tuition Assessment Form. The form offers three options. A student can refer the College to the Federal database for verification from a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form on file. A student can also request eligibility for in-state tuition and then provide a passport, Arizona Driver’s License issued after October 1,1996, or other appropriate documents for verification. Finally, a student can state on the form that he or she is not seeking to qualify for in-state tuition. According to the Registrar, Dr. Wendy Kilgore, students will need to complete the new tuition assessment process only once. The process applies to students registering for upcoming Summer session and Fall semester classes. Registration has already begun for Summer session classes starting Tuesday, May 29. Fall semester classes begin August 22. Registration for Fall semester starts April 9. Students who do not complete the new tuition assessment process within 21 days of registering will still be able to attend classes, but will not be able to access online grades or receive transcripts. The process must be completed even if the student is not seeking to qualify for in-state tuition. The tuition assessment process does not apply to non-credit students. There are also no changes to the College’s admissions procedures or domicile requirements. Out-of-state tuition fees are approximately 70% higher than in-state tuition at Pima Community College for part-time students. Out-of-state tuition for students taking seven or more credits is approximately four times the in-state tuition rate. Tuition Assessment Forms, a list of qualifying documentation to verify eligibility, information and assistance are available at the Admissions and Registration Office at each of the College’s six campuses. A printable Tuition Assessment Form, instructions for completing the form and a list of qualifying documents to verify eligibility for in-state tuition are also available online through a link on the College’s homepage, www.pima.edu. The online instructions also explain how students can complete the process if they do not have a FAFSA form on file and can not present documents for verification at a College campus or registration site.
