Softball team's season comes to an end

Tucson, AZ -- The Pima softball team's season came to an end on Saturday as the No. 4 Aztecs lost to No. 9 Wallace State Community College (Alabama) 5-2. The Aztecs finished the tournament in 4th place and closed out its season with a 56-15 overall record.

The Aztecs got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Jessica Schneider (Sahuaro HS) hit an RBI single that brought around two runs and gave Pima a 2-0 lead. Wallace State cut the lead to 2-1 after Michal Robertson hit a leadoff solo homerun in the top of the 4th. Wallace State scored four more runs in the top of the 5th inning. Schneider finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Nicole Rascon (Salpointe Catholic HS) went 1 for 3 with a run scored and a double.

Yvette Alvarez (Sahuarita HS) took the loss and finished the season with a record of 24-8. She pitched 4 and two-third innings giving up five runs with two strikeouts and one walk. Mari Contreras (Sunnyside HS) came in for relief and struck out six of the eight batters she faced.
