Chancellor's Cabinet October 20, 1009
Present: Chancellor Roy Flores, Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Suzanne Miles; Executive Vice Chancellor David Bea; Vice Chancellors Kirk Kelly and Raul Ramirez; Presidents Lou Albert, Johnson Bia, and Jana Kooi; Assistant Vice Chancellors Donna Gifford and Lynne Wakefield 1. Presentation Hiring Temporary Employees (L. Wakefield) AVC Wakefield noted that there is no formal recruitment process in place for hiring temporary employees and currently Pima has 734 temporary employees. Human Resources would like the hiring process to be defined and communicated, use the College’s online employment system, create a pool of qualified temporaries, coordinate interviews, conduct reference and background check, document employment and hiring process and ensure Board approval. Action: AVC Wakefield with Presidents Fugett and Lee and AVC Ward will review the process and make sure it is uniform and fair; and also look at the possibility of using several different temp agencies. Follow-up: Interim report to be given at the next meeting. 2. Action 2a. Program Accreditations: Dental Studies, Respiratory Therapy, and Radiology Technology (L. Albert) Action: Approved to move forward. 2b. Staff Recruitment Process (R. Flores) Cabinet members were asked to review the process and provide any feedback to AVC Wakefield by 4:00 pm on Friday, October 23, 2009. 3. Follow-up 3a. Communication (R. Flores) Chancellor Flores noted that his presentation on organizational climate to the Breakfast Club was well received. The presentation was revised and AVC Gifford will send the revised version to Cabinet. 3b. Reauthorization of the Higher Education Act (R. Flores) AVC Gifford updated Cabinet on the status of this item. The regulations are currently being written, but the ones that effect Pima are not ready. Dr. Nicola Richmond will provide updates to the Cabinet during the next couple of cabinet meetings. 3c. Email CC Requirement (D. Bea / K. Kelly) Dr. David Bea and Mr. Kirk Kelly distributed a revised list of email protocols. Some edits include: - changing the title to Staff and Administrative Communication Protocol

Follow-up: Dr. Bea will make the suggested revisions and distribute to Cabinet members for dissemination. 4. College Plan (R. Flores) The College Plan is on track. 5. Budget: Ways to Save Money (R. Flores) The Chancellor will be planning forums at campuses to provide information on the current situation and updates on how our strategies are working.
