Chancellor's Cabinet Meeting

Present: Chancellor Roy Flores; Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Suzanne Miles; Executive Vice Chancellor David Bea; Vice Chancellors Kirk Kelly and Raul Ramirez; Presidents Christal Albrecht, Lou Albert, Johnson Bia, Charlotte Fugett, Jana Kooi, and Sylvia Lee; Assistant Vice Chancellor and Vice Provost Brigid Murphy; Assistant Vice Chancellors Donna Gifford, Diane Groover and Lynne Wakefield 1. Board Agenda Items (R. Flores) Assistant Vice Chancellor Gifford distributed revised calendars for the August through November Agenda deadline dates. Also distributed was a list of recurring items listed by month and an entire list of all agenda items from January – December 2007. The new process of sending agenda items and descriptions to the Chancellor will include: explanation of service, funding, duration and what College plan initiative it ties into. Follow-up: Cabinet is to provide to AVC Gifford by Friday, June 13, a highlighted list of recurring items from their campus. 2. Information Items 2a. Pilot Program: Bachelor Degree for PCC (R. Flores) Governor Napolitano has asked the universities and community colleges to work together to double the number of bachelor’s degrees by 2020. To do this, a number of challenges must be addresses, including appropriate funding models that better support strategic goals, governance structurethat enables coordination system wide, determining and sustaining student demand, establishing university presence and advising throughout the state, and establishing criteria to make market based decisions regarding degree programs, among others. Possible programs for PCC: Health Care Administration (builds on PCC Associate in Allied Health) BAS – Occupational Trades Management Physicians Assistant For each of these programs, PCC has to: - look at other community colleges to see what has worked for them as well as examine their funding 8 process

Possible team members: Nic Richmond, Danielle Beardsley, Marty Mayhew, Terry Forster, Harry Muir, Johnson Bia, Diane Groover, David Bea, Brigid Murphy and Stan Steinman The Chancellor will convene a meeting this week to start the process. 2b. Fiscal Year Budget (D. Bea) Dr. Bea distributed copies of a travel summary for FY 09. The budget for FY 09 will be based on FY 07 Actual Expenditures or whatever is less based on the FY 09 budget request. For Contractual Services and Supplies, the budget will be based on FY 07 + 5%. The Chancellor gave some guidelines for travel including appropriate conferences for positions (e.g. AACC is for Executive Administrators and possibly Deans of Instructions or AVCs.) 2c. Standing Committee Reports (D. Gifford) The committee recommendations were reviewed. The charges for all committees will be changed to reflect that all recommendations are to be made to the Chancellor. Follow-up: This item will come back for further review at the next Cabinet meeting.
