Present: Chancellor Roy Flores; Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Suzanne Miles; Executive Vice Chancellor David Bea; Vice Chancellors Kirk Kelly and Raul Ramirez; Presidents Lou Albert, Johnson Bia, Charlotte Fugett, Jana Kooi, Sylvia Lee and Mary Vanis; Senior Assistant to the Chancellor Donna Gifford; Assistant Vice Chancellors Imelda Cuyugan and Lynne Wakefield

1.         Presentations

The A-B-C of Arizona Articulation and Transfer (J. Scott/B. Murphy & A. Huber)
Ann Huber, Statewide Articulation Facilitator and Jennie Scott, Director of Curriculum and Articulation Services presented information on the Basics of the Arizona Transfer Model.  The model was developed to assist the Arizona public community college students to transfer to the Arizona public universities with maximum use of transfer credits toward their baccalaureate degree.

Chancellor Flores requested that all Articulation Task Force members receive training (letter will be from Ms. Huber).  This training should include the information that Articulation Task Forces do not rule on modality of instruction.  Provost Miles will follow-up with Ms. Huber.

Employee Relations — Doreen Armstrong (R. Ramirez)
Doreen Armstrong, Director of Employee Relations presented background information on the Office of Employee Relations.  Prior to 2004, Employee Relations was an integrated function with Professional Development; today, the office provides advice and guidance on College policies and practices.

Chancellor Flores noted that Cabinet officers should be informed first with regard to complaints and investigations.

2.         Action Items

2a.    Reallocation Model (RAM) Review (R. Ramirez)
Vice Chancellor Ramirez distributed copies of RAM Output and Actual FTE Staffing.  After a brief discussion, this item will come back with updated enrollment data from January 1, 2007 to 45th day.

2b.    Dual Enrollment Handbook (S. Lee)
Action:  Approved.

2c.    Faculty Selection Process (R. Ramirez)
Vice Chancellor Ramirez stated that there will be 29 distinct recruitments (23 single campuses and 6 multi-campuses) with each recruitment consisting of at least 5 committee members (one administrator and 4 faculty).

Presidents Bia and Kooi will work with Vice Chancellor Ramirez to come up with a plan to facilitate the upcoming recruitments.  Committee members are to be announced by the first week after Thanksgiving.

2d.    Marketing Plan (L. Wakefield)
Assistant Vice Chancellor Wakefield asked Cabinet to review the marketing plan and contact her if there were any questions.  Ms. Wakefield was asked to translate the marketing plan into a college plan format.

2e.    Process for Separation of Employment (R. Ramirez)
Vice Chancellor Ramirez distributed background information on the current process for separation of employment and noted that the process is not clearly defined and varies between campuses.  Cabinet was asked to review the information and contact Vice Chancellor Ramirez if there were any questions.

2f.     Avionics New Program Business Plan (M. Vanis)
President Vanis presented a New Program Request for Avionics for approval to move forward with the curriculum development of the Avionics Direct Employment Certificate and AAS Degree programs which includes an on-line component.

2g.    NCATT Certification Approval (M. Vanis)
President Vanis presented NCATT (National Center for Aircraft Technician Training) Certification for approval to move forward with NCATT Accreditation for the Avionics program.

3.         Information Items

3a.    Customer Service/Marketing Committee Recommendations (S. Lee)
President Kooi distributed copies of the Marketing Committee recommendations for 2007-08 which included a recommendation for mandatory customer service training for all front-line employees.

3b.    Winter Break System Outage (K. Kelly)
Vice Chancellor Kelly informed Cabinet that due to necessary upgrades to the Oracle databases, some College computer systems will be unavailable December 26 starting at 12:00 am and ending January 2 at 6:00 am.  Services that will be available are:

  • Student and employee email
  • Files on networked personal/shared drives
  • College home page and the majority of the web site
  • Library systems (off-campus users will need to use their barcode number for access)
  • Internet access

After some discussion, a strategy will be developed for the beginning of Winter Intersession.

3c.    Title V Endowment (M. Vanis)
President Vanis distributed copies of the Desert Vista Campus Noticias which included information on the Title V Endowment.
