Chancellor's Cabinet
District Central Office July 3, 2007
Present: Chancellor Roy Flores; Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Suzanne Miles, Executive Vice Chancellor David Bea; Vice Chancellors Kirk Kelly and Raul Ramirez; Presidents Lou Albert, Johnson Bia, Sylvia Lee, and Mary Vanis; Senior Assistant to the Chancellor Donna Gifford; Assistant Vice Chancellors Imelda Cuyugan and Lynne Wakefield 1. Exemplary Programs (Johnson Bia) 1a. Customer Service Program President Bia introduced students from Dr. Ray Everett’s MGT 130 class. The students were asked by Dr. John Merren to provide input and advice for a Customer Service Program. The students conducted personal interviews with supervisors/managers of businesses and compiled the survey results. The objectives were to identify the skills or traits most needed in today’s dynamic work force; open lines of communication between local, potential employers and Pima Community College students looking for work and to compile data necessary to modify existing classes that would be beneficial to students and local employers alike. 2. Information Items 2a. College Standing Committee Reports (D. Gifford) Ms. Gifford distributed copies of the Standing Committee reports. Cabinet reviewed the reports and some gave a summary of activities. Additional summaries, if necessary, will be giving at the next meeting. 3. Follow-up 3a. On-line Education Board Policy, Regulation, and SPGs Drafts (J. Kooi) Chancellor Flores noted that an Ad Hoc committee had been formed and will work through the summer on revising the On-Line Education Policy, Regulation, and SPGs. Suggested language changes to the Policy: Title: Access to Learning “Pima Community College is committed to providing access to learning without the limits of time, place or distance. To that end, the college will ensure that courses, programs and services are offered in the evenings, weekends, through distance learning technologies and alternative delivery systems commensurate with the needs of the community.” 3b. Professional Growth Leave for Administrators (R. Flores) Presidents Albert, Lee and Vanis presented draft criteria for administrative leaves. Follow-up: This item will come back to Cabinet in mid-August. 4. Issues and Concerns 4a. Schedule of Classes “TBA” Term (R. Flores) Chancellor Flores stated that a concern has come to his attention regarding the use of “TBA” term in the Schedule of Classes. Most students believe the term means “To Be Announced”, when it actually means “To Be Arranged (by the student)”. Possible ways to alert the students to this fact are to send postcards/letters or have a message posted on MyPima. 4b. Governor's Mature Workers Initiative (R. Ramirez) Vice Chancellor Ramirez introduced Dan Offret (EC), Jim Murphy and Roger Forrester from Pima Council on Aging (PCOA). Mr. Forrester noted that the Governor’s initiative is to create Mature Worker Friendly businesses and institutions. PCOA is non-profit organization that offers free job service for individuals 50 and over. There is no charge to employers and job seekers. Mr. Forrester will submit a formal proposal to the Chancellor. 4c. Outstanding Employees (R. Ramirez) This item will come back with a list of nominees and criteria. 4d. Faculty Vacancies (S. Miles) Provost Miles discussed the vacant faculty FTE’s. 5. Significant Events 5a. All College Day (R. Ramirez) The theme for All College Day is “Delivering on Our Promise to the Community”. This year, All College Day will only be a half-day with staff returning to their worksite after lunch (breakfast provided but not lunch). Federal Legislators are being asked to be the keynote speaker(s).
