Chancellor's Cabinet Meeting

Present:  Chancellor Roy Flores; Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Suzanne Miles, Vice Chancellors David Bea and Kirk Kelly; Presidents Lou Albert, Johnson Bia, Sylvia Lee, Raul Ramirez; Senior Assistant to the Chancellor Tom Tomasky; Assistant Vice Chancellors Imelda Cuyugan and Lynne Wakefield

1.       Deputy Executive Group Report (S. Jennings)

Assistant Vice Chancellor Jennings highlighted the March 22nd meeting of the Deputy Executives Group.

Department Chair Academy:  Cabinet suggested that information from the Faculty Personnel Policy Handbook be included as an agenda item and Charlotte Fugett and Sylvia Lee were asked to work on this.

2a.    Innovative Program Funding (D. Bea)
Vice Chancellor reviewed the budgeted funds for Prop 301 and Innovative Program funds.

3a.    MyPima Student Processes (R. Ramirez)
Cabinet reviewed the responses to Campus concerns regarding MyPima.  Ms. Glogoff noted that they would continue taking questions and will provide the responses in a spreadsheet format.  Cabinet was encouraged to share the responses with faculty and staff.

4.       Issues and Concerns

4a.    Student Services Survey (R. Flores)
Executive Director Tilson informed Cabinet that students were asked to participate in an online survey of their satisfaction with services offered at each campus.  The purpose of the survey was to look at the data collected to show where to improve services.  The survey was available online for a two-week period, January 22 – February 5, 2007 with four service areas being evaluated:  Admission, Advising, Financial Aid, and Registration.  Questions asked:  Were the Pima College staff friendly? Did you receive prompt service? Was the information you received what you wanted? What do you think about the amount of time you spent at (each service area)? How satisfied are you overall with the service you just received?

Cabinet was asked “what level of satisfaction are we looking for with 4 being highest.  Answer:  3.25 – 3.95.  After further discussion, Cabinet is to share the results of the survey with staff.

4b.    Direct Proposals from other Colleges Regarding Expansion of Programs (R. Flores)
Dr. Flores noted that campuses are being approached by various institutions asking to create “programs” or use PCC in grants that don’t always work for Pima.  Cabinet was informed that all new inquires must go to Provost Miles.

4c.    Elimination of 301 Funds Standing Committee (R. Flores)
Chancellor Flores informed the Cabinet that the Standing Committee for the 301 Funds will be eliminated. There are procedures in place and the committee has run it course.  President Bia will schedule a meeting with the committee, to include Dr. Flores, to inform them of the decision.

4d.    SSME (Service Science Management and Engineering) (R. Ramirez)
President Ramirez presented for approval, the Post Degree Certificate in Service Science Management and Engineering.  IBM issued a national call to educational institutions to provide training for increasingly service-oriented management positions.  The SSME program will benefit the community by providing a certificate for engineers, programmers, and production managers transitioning into service systems management positions.  This new program could also lead to an Associates Degree or Baccalaureate.

Action:  Approved.
