Employees

Cecilia Ramirez and Sylvia Lee received YWCA Women on the Move awards.

Carol Hutchinson received the Pima County Career and Technical Education Professional Alumni Hall of Fame award.

Charlette Padilla received an Award of Professional Recognition from the Norton School of Retail and Consumer Science.

Nghi (Nia) Lam was selected as one of the 2009 American Library Association (ALA) Emerging Leaders, and was also awarded an Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) 2009 National Conference Scholarship award.

Rebeca Bennett received the César E. Chávez Humanitarian Award.

Bryce Morthland and Karen Lutrick received Gold 2008 NCMPR Medallions for the 2008-09 Student Handbook.  Morthland also received a Silver Medallion for the PCC Foundation Newsletter.

Kiet Randolph received a Silver 2008 NCMPR Medallion for the PCC Faculty Recruitment brochure.

Shannon McBride-Olson won a Gold 2008 NCMPR Medallion for the 2008 College Calendar.

Todd Holthaus was named NJCAA Region I Women's Basketball Coach of the Year.

Nancee Sorenson received the Phi Theta Kappa Administrator Award of Distinction.

Jodylee Estrada-Duek received the Distinguished Advisor award from Phi Theta Kappa.

Students

Lisa Ryan received the Hall of Honor Award for Distinguished Member from Phi Theta Kappa.

Andrés Gabaldón and Karaline Salmans were named to the first 2009 All-Arizona Academic Scholars Team.   Gabaldón was also selected as a 2009 Coca-Cola Bronze Scholar.  Kelly Huxtable, Alexandria Stanton and John Windham were named to the second 2009 All-Arizona Academic Scholars Team.  Trevor Clarke, Alexis Grijalva, Rose Knapp, Melissa Leyva, Ana Valenzuela, and Dennis Wilhelm were selected for the third 2009 All-Arizona Academic Scholars Team.

Juanita Ayabar, Aurora Elizalde, Ana Maria Ferrara, Kevin Forsyth, Blanca Garcia Olave, Rosa Granado, Liana Hancox, Norma Hernandez, Irma Kiser, Fabiola Lucero, Paola Manquero, Reyna Nevarez, Veronica Ochoa, JoVanna Pena, Miriam Ramirez , Geovanny Soza, Gertrude Taylor, Azucena Velasquez, Marianela Zárate were inducted into the National Adult Education Honor Society.

Abyee Maracigan was named the 2009 NJCAA Women's Basketball Region 1, Division 2 Tournament Most Valuable Player.  She was also named to the All-ACCAC 1st Team, and the All-Region 1, Division 2 1st Team.

Tia Morrison was named to the 2009 All-ACCAC Women's Basketball 1st Team and the All-Region 1, Division 2 1st Team.

The Women's Basketball Team placed 3rd in the NJCAA Division 2 National Tournament.  Team members included Adilene Villalobos, Abyee Maracigan, Deana Bledsoe, Cristen Schweitzer, Azya Peoples, Sabrina Molina, Gaby Ayon, Heather Paddock, LeAndra Lucas, Tia Morrison, Andrea Benjamin, and Courtney Payne.  The team was coached by Head Coach Todd Holthaus and Assistant Coaches Claudia Bujanda, Bruce Fleck, Vanessa Campillo and Katie Lehner.

Travis Sanchez  was a two-time All-ACCAC and All-Region 1, Men's Basketball 1st Team honoree.  Sanchez was also named to the NJCAA All-American 2nd team, and to the Soccer Coaches Association of America/Adidas Men's Junior College Division I All-American 2nd team.  Sanchez earned a full scholarship to Oregon State University.

Terrence Hill and Shannon Doctor were named to the All-ACCAC Men's Basketball 2nd Team and to the All-Region 1, Division 2, 2nd Team.

Kelcee Newell was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Adidas Junior College Division 1 All-Amercan team.

Anna Alvarez, Raquel M. Angulo, Kyle Crescenzo, Rose Eisele, Brenda Huang, Toni Lancaster, Ricardo Monteverde, Maria de Los Angeles Padilla, Rita Samadder, Madhu Tripathi, Denise Valencia, and Ronald E. Woods received Awards of Distinguished Merit from the Arizona Department of Education.

Community members

Wheeler Taft Abbett, Sr. was recognized for his financial contribution to PCC's Nursing Program and for receiving the "Partners in Community Commitment" from Pima County.

Cindy Meekin was recognized for her work as Dual Enrollment Coordinator for Marana High School.  Through Cindy's efforts, Pima has offered 28 class sections in subjects ranging from Chemistry to Writing.  This has provided students with the opportunity to earn credits toward their future college goals.
