A Special Meeting of the Pima County Community College District Board of Governors was held on Friday, April 21, 2006 at 12:00 p.m., in the Community/Board Room, District Central Office, 4905 E. Broadway, Tucson, AZ  85709-1010.

The Board met in public session at the request of Mr. Doug Shakel for the Board to hear Mr. Shakel’s appeal of the Chancellor’s recommendation to terminate Mr. Shakel’s employment with the College.  The Board heard testimony from witnesses for both the College and Mr. Shakel.

Motion to Terminate Mr. Shakel's Emloyment NO SECOND

Scott Stewart – M, to terminate Mr. Shakel's employment.

The motion died for lack of a second.

Motion to Retain Mr. Shakel with Sanctions PASSES

Motion No. 6677

Sherryn Marshall – M, Richard Fimbres – S to reject the motion for the recommendation for termination, and support a recommendation whereas, although Mr. Shakel is retained on the payroll, there are sanctions, that are yet to be determined, imposed.

Vote: Members voted by voice vote. Brenda Even – aye, Sherryn Marshall – aye, Richard Fimbres – aye, Marty Cortez – aye. Scott Stewart – no, Motion carried.

Motion to Authorize Special Meeting PASSES

Motion No. 6678

Richard Fimbres – M, Sherryn Marshall – S to authorize a special meeting for a hearing on May 5 at 5:30 at the District Office.

 Vote: All members present voted. Brenda Even, Sherryn Marshall, Richard Fimbres and Marty Cortez voted “aye.” Scott Stewart voted “no.” Motion carried.

The meeting adjourned at 8:44 p.m.
