Pima Upward Bound student wins national video award

A student in the Upward Bound Program at Pima Community College’s Desert Vista Campus recently won national recognition for a video she produced.

Adriana Parra, in the Upward Bound Program at Pima’s Desert Vista Campus, won the Gold Best Video award in the TRiO Quest Awards 2009, which promote the use of technology by TRIO staff and students.

Parra, a sophomore at Desert View High School, won for her video, “Una Esperanza,” the fictional story of immigrants from Mexico working in the United States. To view the video online, go to this link on the University of Washington’s Web site, http://depts.washington.edu/trio/quest/awards/tq2009/mq_gold.html, and click on the title.

Two other student videos from Upward Bound at Desert Vista also did well, says Daniel Pacheco, Program Director:

Semifinalist: “I Hate Velcro!” by Melissa Lee, Ramon Serrano, Angela Xayvongsack, Danelia Pena and Su Leing Sin

Quarterfinalist: “The Soda Experiment” by Claudio Arballo
