3 PCC women golfers headed to NJCAA nationals
Three members of the Pima Community College women’s golf team have qualified for the 2009 NJCAA National Championships next month in Florida.
Freshmen Brianne Anderson (Tucson, Flowing Wells HS) and Nicole Gentry (Marana, Mountain View HS) and sophomore Codie Wintrode (Tucson, Catalina Foothills HS) will play in the May 18-21 tourney at the LPGA International Golf Club Legends Course in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Each of the three also earned All-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference and All-Region I honors. Anderson was named to the first team All-ACCAC and first team All-Region I, while Gentry and Wintrode were named to the second team All-ACCAC and second team All- Region I. The Women’s Golf Region I of the NJCAA is comprised of eight junior colleges.
PCC ended the season in second place in the conference by winning its final tournament. It beat Mesa Community College by six strokes in a Paradise Valley Community College-hosted tournament April 20-21 at Tatum Ranch Country Club. PCC’s Anderson finished second overall and Gentry was fourth.
