Men's Golf headed to Nationals

The PCC men’s golf team is headed to the 2009 NJCAA National Championship tournament later this month after winning the Region I tournament on Sunday.

Five Aztecs qualified for the NJCAA championship May-17-22: Region I-winner Eric Briggs (Sahuarita HS), Region I runner-up Tom Callahan, (Sierra Vista, Buena HS), Cody Patterson (Sierra Vista Buena HS), Jared Baldwin (Marana, Mountain View HS) and Alejandro Escobedo, (San Diego, St. Augustine HS).

Biggs four-round Region I-tourney score was 294 (74, 71, 76 and 73) and was two strokes ahead of teammate Callahan, whose tourney score was 296 (76, 71, 77 and 72). Meanwhile, Patterson was fifth, with a four-round score of 302 (72, 75, 75, and 80).

PCC beat Scottsdale Community College by 13 strokes in the Region I tourney.

The NJCAA tourney is at the Robert Trent Jones Trail River Golf Course, in Huntsville, Ala.
