PCC softball to be No. 2 seed in Region I tourney

The Pima Community College softball team clinched a spot in the 2009 Region I tournament, sweeping Arizona Western College in a doubleheader April 21.

The No. 2-seeded Aztecs play the No.-3 seeded AWC Matadors at 10 a.m. May 1 to open the Region I playoffs in Prescott. The winner of that game plays the No.-1 seed and tourney host Yavapai College Roughriders.

PCC finished the regular season 49-15 overall, 22-10 in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference.

April 21, the Aztecs beat the Matadors 7-5 and 1-0. Freshman Jordan Trujillo, (Sierra Vista, Buena HS) got the win in game one, finishing the regular season 17-7. Sophomore Chelsea Evanoff, (Tucson, Sabino HS) got the win in game two. She finished 20-3.
