Student Learning Outcomes (SLO)

Pima Community College's Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) are:

Learn
Communicate
Innovate
Participate
Aspire

Each of these College-Wide Student Learning Outcomes is described in the SLO Quickguide.

A successful Student Learning Outcome assessment process answers five essential questions:

  • What do we want our students to learn?
  • How do we know they have learned it?
  • How do we capture that information?
  • How do we use that information to affect decision-making?
  • How do we report and share that information?

At Pima Community College, the assessment of student learning is an ongoing, cyclical process.  At every level (Course Level, Program Level, and College Level) direct measures of learning are collected. The collected information is used to guide discussions about improving student learning.  Those discussions then affect teaching, curriculum review and resource allocation. Integrating Student Learning Outcome information into all aspects of College decision-making provides valuable insight into what students need to learn for success.
